Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Advanced Media Integration? - Directions to the facility

  • We are located at the corner of New Haven Avenue and Meyer Road in the city of Fort Wayne Indiana. Our facility is located at the Scout Park Building.

What video formats can I use?

  • We accept all major formats including DVCAM, DVD-R, DV, MiniDV, BetaCAM SP, 3/4" SP, S-VHS, VHS, VHS-C, Super 8mm film, 8mm film, 16mm film, Digital8, 8mm or Hi-8mm formats.
  • We can also transfer most formats into PAL or SECAM VHS and DVD. In addition, we can accept PAL or SECAM VHS and convert to NTSC.

How do I submit my artwork for CDs, DVDs, labels, sleeves, or inserts?

  • Download one of our templates.
  • Please send your artwork on CD, USB drive, or Zip disc along with (1) your master tape or disc, (2) our order form and (3) the Intellectual Property Rights form. If size is permitting, you may zip your files and e-mail your artwork to info@Advanced Media Integration.com or upload to our FTP site.
  • We accept EPS, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, TIFF and JPG images PDF files. Please use RGB color mode for orders under 1000 and CMYK mode for orders of 1000 or greater.
  • For CD/DVD labels, please send your artwork and include all fonts and graphics used in separate folders. Save fonts as curves/outlines whenever possible. Artwork for CD or DVDs should not have the center hole knocked out. A layered file, flattened file, and a hard copy (if possible) is best to ensure accurate printing. Do not add your artwork to the same layer that the template dyelines are on. Allow for 1/8" bleed for printing. We recommend setting your graphics to at least 300 dpi resolution. Files with a resolution of 72dpi at print size will not produce an acceptable print.
  • Please check your files carefully. In order to offer the lowest possible price with no setup fees, we do not budget labor time in a job to check and repair files. Checking your files will save you from having your order delayed.

Do you offer graphic design services?

  • If you are stuck as to where to begin with your artwork and have nowhere to turn, let us know. We'll be happy to assist you. Advanced Media Integration has a graphic design rate of $75/HR. Our graphic designers will do the job right and at a quick pace so as to save you money.
  • We no longer require artwork setup fees for printing as long as your artwork is set to correct specification. If it's not, we'll try to help you out as best as we can so you are not charged. Your order may be delayed if artwork is not ready for printing. If you need some assistance, feel free to contact us. Our friendly staff will assist you right away.

What is Duplication vs. Replication?

  • DVD duplication is similar to "burning" CD-Rs on a computer with a CD recorder. You must have a DVD recorder drive and software to duplicate DVDs. At Advanced Media Integration, your DVDs will go through a top-of-the-line auto loading system process and the format used is called a DVD-R. PLEASE NOTE: DVD-Rs play in most but not all manufactured DVD players. We can accept DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW and DVD+R DL discs as masters, but we prefer to output to DVD-R because it is the most compatible with standalone DVD players and DVD-ROM drives.
  • DVD replication (and CD replication for that matter) is a manufacturing process of stamping similar to "cookie cutting." A glass master (which acts like a "cookie cutter"), is created from the customer's supplied media and used to press the digital information to make the DVD replicas (or "cookies"). DVD replication is used for higher volume orders of at least 1000. DVD replicated discs can play in virtually all players and in all PCs with a DVD-ROM drive and player software. If you need screen or offset printing, then CD or DVD replication is the way to go.

What is DVD-5, DVD-9, DVD-10, and DVD-18 replication?

  • When you think of DVD replication, do you realize that it can be broken down into a lot of options? Don't let the information below confuse you. We'll be happy to help you understand this further if need be. We strive to make ordering with Advanced Media Integration as simple as possible. Please contact us if you need more explanation.
  • DVD 5 replication is single-sided single layer. It is referred to as 4.7GB media which holds 4.37 computer GB (1 kilobyte = 1024 bytes) which is just over 2 hours of audio and video. DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW support this format.
  • DVD 10 replication is double-sided single layer. It is referred to as 9.4 GB media which holds about 8.75 computer GB (or rougly 4 1/2 hours of audio and video). Since there is data on both sides, you have to flip the disc to watch the video on the other side. To replicate this format, you'll need to send us is two DVD-R masters. One DVD-R will be for side 1 and the other for side 2. The only downside to this is printing can only be done around the hub. Please contact us and we'll send you a template if needed.
  • DVD 9 replication is similar to DVD 5 replication in that all printing is done on one side and all the data is on the other side. However, the difference is that a DVD 9 is single-sided dual layer. It is referred to as 8.54 GB media which holds about 7.95 computer GB (or roughly 4 hours of audio and video). It has been the most commonly used format for Hollywood movies. For submitting a master for replication, we require a DLT or two DVD-Rs with a DDP image on both discs. Disc 1 should be layer 0 and the next disc is layer 1. DVD+R DL writable media can also be used as masters if you do not need copy protection.
  • DVD 18 replication is double-sided dual layer. It is referred to as 17.0GB media which holds about 15.9 computer GB (over 8 hours of audio and video). We do not offer DVD 18 replication.

What disc printing options do you offer?

  • If your order is 1000 or greater, you have the option of silk-screen or offset printing. Silk-screen is the most common technology for printing on discs. Your artwork is used to print negative films, 1 for each color used (white and colors used in 4 color process printing: CMYK, Cyan-Magenta-Yellow-Black). These films are then used to transfer the image to screens (corresponding to the number of colors in your artwork) that will be mounted to the press. Silk-screen is printed at 120 lpi and the advantage is turnaround time.
  • Offset printing uses a different technology. A set of plates are created (either using films as described above or etched directly from the artwork) and attached to a press. The plates roll over an inkpad, picking up the proper color ink, and then roll over the disc to apply the ink. With offset printing, there is more control over color and detail. A huge advantage is the image is printed up to 175 lpi. Plus, the ink can be applied at a much thinner coat which gives the disc a smooth feel. Two disadvantages are that you can only use 4 color process artwork, and the turnaround time is more than silk-screen. However, if you have detailed artwork and can spare additional turnaround time, we highly recommend offset printing. Offset and silkscreen printing are scratch and water resistant, so if you require this, upgrade your order to at least 1000 quantity.
  • If your order is less than 1000, you can choose high quality (2400-4800 dpi resolution) inkjet printing directly on the disc, or you can choose no printing if you plan to apply labels. Our inkjet printing is of the best in the industry. Send us a job and let us impress you!

How do I order Business card, Mini, and Shaped CDs and DVDs?

  • You will order just the same as you would a standard size disc, but please contact us so we may e-mail you a template.
  • We offer many cool shapes for CD and DVD orders of 1000 or more.
  • For CD or DVD orders less than 1000, we offer business card CD-Rs (hockey rink style) and Mini CD-Rs (3 inch round).
  • For DVD orders less than 1000, we offer Mini DVD-Rs (3 inch round).
  • We offer small volume duplication in less than a week...call us today!
  • Business card, Mini, and Shaped CDs & DVDs work just like a standard 120 mm circular CD or DVD and can contain whatever information you wish to put on them up to the capacity limit of the disc: Mini CD - 185mb or 21 minutes audio; Mini DVD - 1.46Gb or 30 minutes video; Business card CD (61mm hockey rink) - 50 mb or 5 minutes audio; For shaped CD and DVD sizes, please call.
  • These discs will work in just about any standard PC, MAC or laptop CD/DVD drive. In a standard drive the disc fits into an inner circular tray. In a laptop drive with a prominent spindle that you push the discs directly onto, these discs will work the same way. The orientation of the discs does not matter. They sit with the label facing upwards, just as with standard 120 mm circular CD/DVDs.
  • PLEASE NOTE: Although these discs will work in most players, they will not work in slot-feed style, insert style, cartridge, stacker or jukebox CD drives. We have noticed that many of the newer Apple computers (such as the iMac, Mac Mini, and MacBook) have slot loading drives similar to a car stereo. To play Business card, Mini, and Shaped CD/DVDs discs on these systems, you will have to use an external tray-loading drive.

What is the maximum audio or data size for CD replication?

  • The maximum data size is 720 MB and the maximum audio length is 79.10 minutes. As do many other replicators, we require a waiver signed by you if your CD master is over the normal size or length for CD replication. There is also an additional charge for this service.
  • The normal data size for a CD is 650 MB and the normal audio length is 74.40 minutes.

Do you duplicate Blu-ray discs?

  • We will be offering Blu-ray disc duplication soon! Please contact us concerning your project and deadline needs.

Do you offer Macrovision, Safe Disc CD, or CSS copy protection?

  • Macrovision APS (Analog Protection System): We offer this for CD or DVD orders of 1000 or more. You are responsible to author your CD or DVD with Macrovision APS. CDs can be authored with Macrovision SafeDisc or SafeAudio encryption. Your master CD can be sent to us in CD-R format. Your master DVD video must be submitted in DLT format. Our cost for transferring Macrovision to your CD or DVD is $150. If you would like more information, please visit Macrovision's website.
  • We do not offer Macrovision for VHS duplication.
  • CSS (Content Scrambling System): We offer this for orders of 1000 or more. You are responsible to author your DVD with CSS. Your master DVD video must be submitted in DLT format. CSS flags must be set and each VTS (Video Title Set) must be marked. This is done in your CSS supported DVD authoring program. Our cost for transfering CSS to your replicated discs is $150 (no additional per disc fees for CSS). Visit the DVD Copy Control Association (DVD CCA) for more information.

How many MegaPixels does my scanned image have?

  • Let's use an example to explain this. If you want to scan your 4x6 photo at 300 dpi resolution, you will end up with an image at 1200 x 1800 pixels. Multiplying both of those numbers you get 2,160,000 pixels or 2.16 Megapixels.
  • You can also find out how big your file size would be by using the following calculations: 1 pixel is made up of 3 primary colors = RED, GREEN, and BLUE (RGB for short); A computer stores data in bytes and there is 1 byte for each of the primary colors. So, 1 pixel = 3 bytes. Therefore, in our example above, 2,160,000 x 3 would be 6,480,000 bytes. However, this is just a rounded answer because in reality, the following exists: 1,024 Byte = 1 Kilobyte; 1,024 Kilobyte = 1 Megabyte; 1,024 Megabyte = 1 Gigabyte
  • So, the correct value is calculated as follows: 6,480,000 * 1/1024 * 1/1024 = 6.1798095 Megabytes or 6.18 MB for short.
  • Be sure to understand that this would be an uncompressed file such as a TIFF file. JPEG images are compressed, so the file size would be a fraction of the uncompressed file depending upon what level of compression you desire.

How do I get a UPC bar code?

  • We can provide you with a UPC bar code for a service fee of $50. A must for retail sales, most stores will not sell products without a bar code. A bar code is also necessary to register your product with some sales tracking companies such as Nielsen SoundScan. To help you market your product, we offer you the option of receiving your bar code directly from us. We will email you the new UPC bar code as a high resolution TIFF. From this format the bar code can be easily placed into your artwork. It is not recommended that the bar code be dramatically resized, but if necessary, it may be re-scaled slightly. Be sure to maintain a resolution of 300 dpi or higher so that your bar code will be scannable.
  • Your other option is to join the Uniform Code Council for about $750 plus yearly renewal fees and wait several weeks while your membership application is processed and your UPC number is issued to you. You would then have to obtain software to convert the UPC number into an actual bar code.
  • Having heard from a number of new producers who were disheartened by the expensive and lengthy process of obtaining a UPC code directly from the Uniform Code Council, we are glad that we can do the footwork for you when you order with us so that getting your project on store shelves is as simple and painless as possible.
